The use of animals as “reproductive machines” is truly inhumane, and it is all the more heartbreaking when you discover all the suffering behind this terrible practice.
This pain has become evident in the city of Cali, Colombia, after the Environmental Police and the Oversight Office of the Sentir Animal Foundation made a terrible discovery a few weeks ago.
The cruel situation led to the intervention of the authorities, after the residents of the residential area denounced the inhumane treatment that the dogs suffered in the property.
The constant barking of the dogs and their crying kept the neighbors in suspense who did not suspect the true use that was given to the property.
When the authorities arrived, they noticed the presence of 69 dogs of different breeds and sizes that were used for indiscriminate reproduction. The creatures were in the most terrible conditions of health.
“In poor condition, a bad smell came out of the house. There are people who pass by and see that they are knocked down from the furniture, they see them very dirty, sick and skinny,” recounted a neighbor.
A lucrative practice that undoubtedly remains standing thanks to the citizens themselves who resort to buying pets instead of adopting them. This was pointed out by Liliana Sierra, Animal Welfare Advisor for the Mayor’s Office of Santiago de Cali.
“It is an absolutely cruel situation, an absolutely unlimited exploitation of animals. Many people from Cali are the ones who keep this business alive by buying the animals in these places,”affirmed Sierra.
After the rescue, the spokesmen for the Mayor’s Office of Cali called on the public “not to buy animals, it is best to adopt them to give them a roof and lots of love”.
But this entity was not the only one to speak out in the face of this situation, animal groups such as the La Casita del Bosque project also raised their voices at what happened.
“Ending this sad reality is in our hands. Let’s denounce these dens of death. Do it for those beings who have not seen the sun for years or taken the shortest of walks and who, thanks to your silence, will die in a narrow and cold cage,” said Davis Travis, animalist from the La Casita del Bosque project.
In this case, it is known that the house had been used for these purposes for years and it was not until a citizen denounced that this place could be dismantled. At least now there will be no more furry suffering abuse in the compound.
Dogs are living beings, not a commercial good. Without a doubt, only teamwork and awareness will put an end to the nightmare that many animals must live.
