In an emergency rescue by Trio Animal Foundation from Chicago city shelter, Liz was found starving.
She was so weak she couldn’t even stand on her own feet. She weighed only four pounds, blinded by her matted fur that was all over her face. Lil was found soaked in her own urine and too weak to stand.
The shelter rushed to the organization’s partner veterinarian to get the help needed. In order for the medical team to fully access the dog’s condition, she was immediately shaved down. This because of her dirty messy fur.
She was terribly starving. It’s a miracle that she still survived in that condition without eating and drinking. After several hours at the ER, Liz’s temperature finally came back up to normal. Besides being cold ,her weight was so warming.
She weighed only about four pounds, twice less that a normal dog. A dog her size should weigh at least 10-12 pounds. After x-rays and bloodwork were taken,it was determined that Liz could not stand on her own feet.
Dog was too weak from starvation ,and had extremly muscle atrophy. As is prudent for dogs that have been starved, only small ,frequent meals have been offered. The plan is to slowly increase her diet.
In such deplorable condition, unfortunately Liz’s age can’t be determined. Her teeth have suffered from extreme neglect. A few days later, with a little help from her doctor ,Liz finally was able to hold herself up for a few minutes.
Still very weak from starvation ,she will need to gain weight in order to regain her strength. Two days later, her condition scared everyone. Her body temperature got higher than normal and and her heart rate spiked for some reason.
Fortunately she was still at the hospital vet and doctors took a good care of Liz. After taking some checks ,we are happy to announce that Liz is better than expected. Luckily has gained 2 pounds.
Although she started to get better, and after gaining some pounds, her muscles are still to weak. They are countinuing to get better. Liz now has more energy to walk and move around.
In addition to all of this,we are proud to say that the sunny days has come. Liz has finally started to drink water on her own! Now she get to get up by herself and walk over to get a drink.
After 35 days of her rescue ,she’s getting stronger and more playful everyday! Now she’s more happy because she has new friends and gets very well with them. She is the smartest dog ever! It’s a joy for us to watch her amazing transformation.
