Pet accumulation disorder, popularly known as Noah’s Syndrome , is a psychiatric disorder that consists of accumulating a large number of pets at home without providing them with the minimum care required for their well-being.
This is a very widespread problem in recent times and has serious consequences , both for the dogs and cats themselves (often sick, poorly fed and poorly socialized), as well as for the communities and those affected.
The puppies were found very neglected and living in very little space
A woman resident of the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood, in the Mexican capital of Mexico City, had a history of pet accumulation dating back to 2013.
However, one Thursday morning, authorities were present at the lady’s home and discovered more than forty dog specimens crowded together and in an unfortunate state of health inside her home . The woman was not present. They had been forgotten and left there without further ado, to their fate.
Almost a decade ago, in the same house, there was a similar operation. That day more than eighty dogs and some cats victims of the same situation were released, so it is presumed that the owner could be suffering from the so-called “accumulator syndrome”, mentioned above.
“More than forty overcrowded dogs were rescued in a home in the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood, in Mexico City; the owner has the so-called ‘Accumulator Syndrome’”, said the media that reviewed the case.
A neighbor of the place was in charge of reporting the fact , since she assures that the dogs were all night tearing the walls of the filthy place where they were, in a desperate attempt to survive. This fact, she said, forced her to file a complaint.
“All night last night the dogs were scratching and you could hear that the dogs were suffering. And, well, she has days that she is not seen. She is very fond of her little animals”, said one neighbor.
After the authorities placed tapes to protect the house and the animals, a man arrived at the scene who said that the owner of the house was on vacation and he was in charge of the animals. Brave caretaker…
The case of the largest accumulation of animals known and, until now, unmatched, occurred in a home in the United States in which more than 550 pets were found.
Poor hygiene is usually a consequence of the lack of means (time, space, resources), but also of the inability to detect the minimum needs of the animals kept.
This brings many diseases and risks to these animals, in addition to much suffering in people, but not only that. It can become a very important public health problem , very serious and with disastrous consequences for the poor little animals that have a very bad time.
These pet hoarding patients are not doing this insane act because they are eccentric, or have abandoned themselves on a personal and social level. They only suffer from a mental pathology so far very little investigated. Share this story to raise awareness.
