Deserts are terrifyingly beautiful places, but as everyone knows, they can also be incredibly inhospitable places too.

Especially if you happen to be a member of a species that has not adapted to survive in such a hot, hostile, dry environment with no water to be found for miles.

That’s why if you ever find yourself in a desert the last thing you’d ever expect to see is a kitten.

While driving along a hot desert road a young woman spotted something lying on the side of the road. As she drew closer she realized the object was a cat carrier, but it couldn’t be, could it!

All she could as she drew closer still all she could do was hope that the cat carrier was empty. However, that proved not to be the case.

“She pulled her car over and, with a sinking heart, realized it was indeed a carrier, with a filthy, crusty towel inside,” said the shelter.

Upon closer inspection, her heart sank when she saw, curled inside the filthy towel, was a tiny tabby. Unresponsive, the tiny feline was barely breathing just clinging to life. His tiny system was on the verge of shutting down, without immediate intervention he would die.

The woman immediately sprang into action, pouring water over the tiny feline to cool him down and beginning chest compressions.

Pouring lukewarm water lowers body temperature and allows liquid to be absorbed into the skin.

Being around two hours from their destination it was a race against time to save his life.

“And somehow, a miracle happened and John pulled through! He got a nice bath. With time and TLC, he fully recovered from his near death ordeal,” said the shelter.

Somehow the little battler pulled through and arrived home just in time to receive medical attention, food, and above all love. Given the name John, he is now directly under the care of the woman who rescued him.

Since his rescue carers have found that John gets along with dogs, as well as other cats, and humans.

“Thank You again to the foster mom for her eagle eyes in spotting the carrier and her quick, expert action that saved John from more suffering and from a horrible death, all alone in the desert.”
