A sweet dog, later named Bella, spent her life in a city shelter.

Dog shelters in Romania do not resemble the ones in the states. The dogs are often kept outside and the conditions are less than ideal. Due to poverty in Romania, the shelters do not get enough food from donors so the dogs do not eat as much as they should.

Bella was underweight and scared. She had never been held or loved. Being at the shelter was breaking her spirit. In the video below, you will see that Howl Of A Dog, a rescue group in Romania, took Bella from the shelter in order to find her a forever home.

The rescuers and sweet Bella head straight to the vet. As she sits beside her new human friend in the car, her expression is that of pure peace. She understands, as she’s being shown affection, that her life is about to change.

Bella was utterly exhausted. Shelter workers told the rescuers that Bella hardly slept. She had a hard time feeling safe in her kennel. As she sits there, being pet, her eyes start to close. It’s incredible to see her finally relax.

Then Bella does something so heartwarming. She places her head on her rescuer’s lap. As they head to the vet’s office, she is able to get some sleep. The car is calm and quiet and the woman beside her is kind and gentle. This is what Bella needed. Feeling safe is everything to a dog.

Everyone out there needs to bear witness to a shelter dog’s first moments of peace. Giving homes to dogs that are already in shelters and waiting for love matters.
