After being found by a Good Samaritan, when help arrived they found that despite her poor condition, her kittens were really healthy, in very good shape, and full of energy. Mom had well and truly put their needs before her own.
Her wounded leg indicated that she had been bitten by another animal, possibly another cat. She had probably tried to lead it away from her den, keeping her kittens out of harm’s way.
She was little more than a rack of bones, weighing in at only 6.5 pounds, she would need more immediate care and attention than her kittens.
A volunteer Foster mom from Animal Allies in Virginia, Debbie Harris, was called regarding this cute feline family.
She didn’t hesitate in taking them in, finding herself with “the most colorful litter she had fostered in a long time.”
The Mom was named Chile, and her kittens Chimi, Taco, Pico, Salsa, and Churro. Before the family could settle in though, due to her poor condition, Mom needed an urgent check-up with a vet.
Debbie quickly found Chile to be the perfect patient.
While at the vet, she remained calm throughout her check-up, staff there loved her. She just lay down and relaxed like she didn’t have a care in the world.
Before she could settle in Chile needed to inspect her new accommodation. Once she had inspected the room and found everything to her satisfaction she quickly relaxed and began feeding her babies.
Debbie fed her extra meals, along with a high-calorie supplement to help get her body weight back to normal.
Her kittens, like all healthy kittens, played until they were too tired too and then slept. Or played until they needed a snack, which Mom was only too happy to provide.
“She keeps the kittens so clean and they love on her so much. It’s so important for kittens to know that kind of love that only comes from their mommy,” said Debbie.
“The kittens are getting so big. They’re also eating kitten canned and dry food, and using the litter box like pros,” Debbie added. They are happy and healthy and loving their VIP life.
Now that she has recovered Chile is so much happier, now able to enjoy her time with her babies.
And when the kittens want to drink from the milk bar, Chile is more than happy to oblige.
Their favorite place to be is in their nest.
“It’s like their comfort space where they feel the warmest and safest. No worries in the world with momma close by,” Debbie added.
