Back in 2018, wildfires ravaged the Attica region of Greece.

There’s something about the innocence of animals that is just so touching when they’re wrapped up in the chaos of the world. Among its victims, the fire destroyed a resort. It killed 82 people and injured 170.

On the morning after the fire, a local man was taking a walk by the sea. There, in the distance, he spotted something lying down on a rock.  As he looked closer, he realised it was a dog! The poor dog’s fur looked rough and covered in soot.

That’s when the man understood the pup was a survivor of the fire. She had most likely run into the water to escape the flames, and climbed onto the rock for refuge. The man couldn’t help but tear up as he called an animal rescue for help.

As he waited for help to arrive, the man took a photo of the dog and posted it on social media. Little did he know this photo would soon become the symbol of the wildfire’s survivors. A few hours after her rescue, Lua’s family showed up at the shelter, saying they had seen her photo online.

“She has been found by her people! Her name is Lua! They didnít let her die. They adore her! They didnít know what to do in the chaos,”said a friend of the family.

They explained that during the chaos the night of the fire, Lua had run away. Her family had searched and searched for her, to no avail. But thanks to her viral photo, they were reunited with her again! Lua and her family were quickly evacuated from Mati, where the fires had taken place.
