Shelters can be stressful places for dogs.
Thankfully, most don’t stay there for long. But that is sadly not the case for Zaba, who’s been in the shelter for almost 10 years. Zaba first came to the shelter in December 2012. Since then, he has lived almost his entire life behind bars.
He was adopted at one point, but quickly returned. He waited endlessly, tried to be a good boy, but no-one paid attention to him. As he got older, his chances only diminished.
Marlena, a volunteer at the shelter, met Zaba 5 years ago. Since then, the two have become as thick as thieves. But as much as Marlena loved Zaba, she couldn’t adopt him. Indeed, she owned a French Bulldog who didn’t really like dogs company.
But, a few months ago, Marlena’s Bulldog sadly passed away. Though Marlena was heartbroken, she couldn’t imagine her home without a dog in it. And she instantly knew who would be the perfect fit for her and her husband.
In addition, she went to the shelter and visited Zaba’s kennel for the last time. Because this time, after their walk, she didn’t take Zaba back to the shelter. She was going to take him home.
It’s been two months since Zaba’s adoption and he is making great progress. Through the coffee machine and the oven are still quite scary to him, he is starting to come out of his shell and play more.
Marlena and her husband couldn’t be happier with the new addition to their family. Also Zaba couldn’t get a better family than theirs. He will now live a happy life till the end.
