Tightly wrapped around their sister the two tabbies almost seemed to be trying to protect her.
Earlier this week we post a story about three kittens found lying near the street in Naples. Rescued they were taken back to a shelter by Megan Sorbara from the Naples Cat Alliance.
The two tabbies had wrapped themselves around their trembling white sister as if they were trying to protect her. The little white girl, named Coconut ate normally but could barely walk, preferring instead to roll.
She also had a pronounced head tilt, trying to get to the bottom of what was going on with her, as of last Friday Megan took her to Harborside Animal Clinic in Naples. There she was told the tiny kitten could have a congenital vestibular disease or some sort of neurological disease-causing loss of balance.
The main point being that at this stage she is still too young to make a definitive diagnosis.
Every night since rescuing the litter Megan and her team have returned to Bayshore Drive where they originally rescued the kittens to try and trap the Mom. Having been exposed to traps in the past Mom is very trap shy, they even tried to tempt her with her own kittens.
Finally they were succesful and Mom was eventually trapped.
Naples Cat Alliance will take care of the litter until they are old enough to be put up for adoption. Spayed and neutered, they will have a good start to life, though Megan thinks it could be a little while for Coconut.
With offers of adoption already, Megan hopes that the three siblings can stay together. Adding that Coconut needs to go to someone very special.
In the meantime, Sorbara’s dog, Bitsy, has adopted the litter as her own, encouraging Coconut to stretch out, while Sobara has been massaging her head.
“She’s getting around and eating,” she said. “All of her other functions are normal. I’m hoping it’s something she might just grow out of.”
Despite her disposition, Sorbara says that Coconut is a playful kitty with an adventurous spirit.
“She is a little spitfire! She loves to wrestle with her brothers and she has lots of energy … she is a special kitty, totally unaware of her disabilities; she is a little fighter.”
Bitsy, Megan Sorbara’s dog, has adopted Coconut and her brothers as her own.
