Bambi is a medium-small sized mestizo who was abandoned in the middle of a road, because he was old and ill.
The presence of a dog that was able to move with difficulty, was reported. He was skinny and could not move his hind legs. The dog was rescued and cared for by Oipa volunteers Natalia and Chiara who will be providing treatment for him.
Elderly Bambi, was in a cachectic state and was unable to walk due to “dangling” hind legs. He underwent examinations and was diagnosed with severe hepatic and renal insufficiency, leishmaniasis and severe physical wasting.
“When we picked him up to load him into the car and took him to the clinic, he let himself taken without problems,” Chiara and Natalia said.
His transformation lasted four month. Bambi was treated, subjected to various therapies and pampered by Oipa volunteers. Now he has recovered his strength and can use his hind legs perfectly.
At the time of recovery Bambi weighed just five kilos, now he weighs twice as much and his fur is so shiny and soft, just as his eyes are more brilliant than before. Nobody knows Bambi’s past but probably, from close surveillance of his behaviour, he seemed to have lived alone.
He can not bear that someone touches or moves his food bowl but loves human contact even if he may be wary at first meeting, over time he becomes willing to accept all possible and imaginable caresses.
“He is an elderly dog who has his experience and studies people and animals well before establishing a relationship,” the volunteers said.
Bambi needs an adopter with experience who knows how to respect his past and can give him a better future so he can spend the last years of his life in a safe place with someone who understands his language and needs.
