One late afternoon a little girl heard some tiny cries. They come from some bushes in the garden and went to investigate!
After a quick investigation, she found a tiny kitten in a terrible state and knew there was no way she could leave her there. Emaciated and covered in fleas she was barely clinging to consciousness. Mother was nowhere to be found.
It was clear she was not long for this world if something wasn’t done right away. Contact was made with Sandra Lee. She quickly arrived on the scene and took the sick kitten into her care.
“Livvie was so severely dehydrated and sick, I could see every bone in her spine. I honestly wasn’t sure if she would make it,” said Sandra.
Once she got Livvie home it quickly became clear that her survival was going to be touch and go. While she looked like she was around 6 to 8 weeks old she weighed under one pound.
To top it all off kitty was covered head to tail in parasites, severely dehydrated. Almost every bone in her vertebrae stook out in stark detail. Barely able to walk she was also severely constipated and unable to go to the bathroom despite trying over and over.
“To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure she would make it the first couple of nights, and just wanted to give her a warm home and safe space,” Sandra said.
Knowing how serious the situation was, Sandra rushed the struggling feline to the vet. Our vet said she had never seen anything like it. She couldn’t poop on her own for three weeks. The buildup of toxins in her body also caused severe tremors.
They thought that the toxins from all the waste buildup were likely to blame for her neurological issues. But they weren’t sure what type of long-term consequences could follow if she recovered.
Sadly Livvie spent almost the entire first month in Sandra’s care under the watchful eye of the vet so serious was the situation.
“She would’ve most likely died if she hadn’t been found when she was, or taken to the shelter because the extra care she would’ve required,” Sandra said.
Livvie proved me wrong because although she was in terrible physical conditions, she had an amazing will to live. Now at full health Livvie’s personality began to shine and she came out of her shell appearing to be ready for her forever home.
“A lovely woman lost her 12 year old cat last year. She looks exactly like an older Livvie. Livvie was adopted today, and is bringing lots of laughter and healing to this sweet woman.”
Under any other circumstance Livvie and her new mom looked like the perfect match, but Livvie never really settled in and appeared to have ideas of her own. Continuously hiding, her new mom would spend hours talking to her trying to coax her out.
So Sandra decided to see if she could help out and paid a visit. Livvie was over the moon at seeing her again meowing over and over again she quickly became her old self.
“I laid on the floor and just started to talk to her,” Lee said. “Livvie immediately let out a little meow and started wiggling her way out from under her hiding spot toward me. The nice lady said, ‘I think she wants to go home.”
It would appear that despite how nice Livvie’s new mom was, and how great her new home was Livvie knew where her real home was.
“Although we had special bonds with all our fosters, I think we knew Livvie was special,” Lee said. “We were always against foster fails as we are at capacity with our own resident animals, but Livvie clearly had other plans.”
