The fight to stop the commercialization of animal life has not stopped. And we’re not just talking about the lives of exotic or endangered species, but common creatures like dogs. Pet sales have a nightmare behind them that has been denounced by many: dog factories.

These spaces eventually become kennels, where the lives of the dogs are multiplied indiscriminately and without any form of care.

A situation that has been defended by many associations and, especially in the United States, condemned by The Humane Society. The group was responsible for making public in May of this year a report called the Horrible Hudred.

The investigation corresponds to the seventh report in a series of articles the association publishes annually to denounce cases of ill-treatment of animal life.

“Our seventh annual Horrible Hundred report reveals shocking cases of neglect and mistreatment of dogs in puppy mills, including malnourished dogs and scores of puppies dying mysteriously. What it also reveals is that the United States Department of Agriculture is failing miserably at its job of cracking down on dog breeders and brokers who are responsible for numerous animal deaths and suffering.

Poorly fed animals with lesions on their skin, and even some “sudden deaths” are just some of the complaints arising from the investigation.

But for those who think that the matter is a pure waste of time, we must say no. Following the complaint, at least six dog factories have closed across the country. Perhaps the number is low but it should be noted that there are hundreds of lives that have been freed from the horrors of these places.

The closed factories were located in the states of Missouri and Pennsylvania, which ranked number one and number three respectively in the report for the worst-performing hatcheries.

In Pennsylvania, one of the factories closed voluntarily and the other two closed on orders of the state that revoked their licenses.

While in Missouri, one factory closed by mutual consent with authorities and the other two closed voluntarily, following pressure from the state due to repeated state violations and heightened scrutiny.

These are just a few results achieved after denouncing the cruel reality that exists within dog breeders. In addition to this, the states of California and Maryland have prohibited the indiscriminate breeding and sale of pets in their territories, a law that will take effect from January 2020.

We hope that the measure ends the suffering to which these animals are subjected.

Fortunately, the demands are being heard and various state agencies are collaborating with the protective organizations to address each complaint. Although it should be noted that the greatest responsibility lies with the citizens.

Regardless of where you are, it is our duty to report any type of action that threatens animal life.

Share this information and help us make a change. Do not buy! Better think about adopting. There are many puppies waiting for a home.
