Slapdash Deliverance of St. Louis responded to a report about a dog that was nearby and chained to a hedge. When rescuers arrived, they were shocked to discover the horrific state the dog was in since it was clear that he had been used as a bait dog.

His torso, face, and legs had taken terrible mouthfuls from each, and his face was so blasted that he could hardly open his eyes. He had become septic since the infected incision had not been covered for a number of weeks. The unfortunate dog was chained up by himself and left to rot.

Saviors brought him to the clinic, where he received antibiotics and spent months on an IV. The nanny was called to return to assist by the round clock.

The dog, now known as Marco, showed himself to be a legionnaire. Even though the path to recovery was difficult, he greatfully succeeded!

Since Pitbulls are the most common breed in dogfighting, some people feel the term bait dog is irresponsibly used to elevate more docile species as the victims. Meanwhile, Pitbulls are demonized as the aggressors. This gives the breed a bad reputation, making them less likely candidates for adoption. Luckily, that did not happen in Marco’s case!

Despite all he has experienced, he still has love and trust for others and relies on them for support. Since then, he has established a loving home with canine siblings who he enjoys playing with. Although he will always have the scars from his canine fighting days, it is evident that his past does not define him.

Marco now spends his days lounging on the couch with his new loving family or playing with the other kids in his large area.
