Determined Blind Stray Cat Finds Forever Home For Her And Her Kittens

Mamma Clue was a stray cat that lived outside near the house of an elderly couple. Recently, when the couple’s son dropped in for a visit, he noticed the cat. The cat’s eyes were crusted shut, and when he followed Clue to where she was sleeping, he found three kittens waiting for her. As the momma cat knew that she and her babies were in need of help, as soon as she got the chance, she led someone to them.

The man contacted the Coastal Bend Cat Rescue who agreed to sponsor a vet visit for the family. Although the rescue did not have any open foster homes, they came up with a plan that would work and that would not leave the family on the streets.

An officer with the Coastal Bend Cat Rescue Mary Huckabee had this to say in an interview:

“At that time, [Mama Clue] was thought to have bad eye infections that were just sealing her eyes closed, and she was given a shot of antibiotics. We were worried about the health of the 1-week-old babies if they had to remain outside with a sick mama. What we did was find some foster home shuffling and a room in a home with an experienced mama/baby foster for Clue and her babies.”

Although three of Clue’s kittens had health issues that needed to be looked into, everyone was elated that they were rescued in time. After Momma Clue was settled into a foster home, her foster mom noticed that not only were her eyes just infected, but sadly she had been always completely blind.

Through her pain and blindness, this mom had survived on her own for so long, and had been an awesome mom to her kittens. Gladly, she made sure that they were found and taken care of. The mom and kittens were all named after board games: Mama Clue, Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders and Candyland. As the kittens started healing right away, Momma cat had shown time and time again that she was the best mother ever.

Huckabee also said:

“Mama Clue is a great mom — being blind does not bother her at all. She was initially very protective of her babies and loved having a Kitty Kasa to keep her babies safe in. She would supervise her foster mom very closely when she removed the babies from their cube for daily weighing and medications. Occasionally, she would be surprised when a baby would meow from a place where she did not expect. She was not very happy when the babies started getting mobile around 3 weeks of age — they did not stay where she put them! She would carry them back to ‘their place’ over and over before she realized she was fighting a losing battle and that her babies were now ready to explore.”

On top of caring for her young ones, Mama Clue has become the biggest sweetheart and has completely let her guard down as now she is safe in her foster home. Mama Clue is super excited to greet her foster mom when she comes into the room, and she also loves belly rubs and scratches. Being an outdoor cat her entire life, mama Clue has gotten used to the life of luxury and cannot get enough of it.

Whatever said and done, momma Clue has no plan to ever go back to the streets. When the kittens are fully healed and old enough, the momma cat and her babies will be ready for a new forever home. But, until that day arrives, they will live a life of safety that their mom found for them.
