A severely neglected dog arrived at a rescue centre looking like a pile of dirty rags.
It’s hard to imagine how anyone allowed Larry to fall into such a terrible state. The 13-year-old Poodle crossbreed was found covered in heavily matted fur caked. A member of the public called the RSPCA after they spotted Larry wandering the streets near Crewe town centre.
“Larry was in an appalling condition. His coat looked like a pile of dirty old rags, and it’s likely he’d been neglected for a prolonged period of time,” said RSPCA inspector Louise Showering.
Rescuers took Larry to RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital. There vets shaved off almost 2kg of filthy fur. Larry must have felt great after. Matting doesn’t just look bad; it can also lead to bruising, skin discolouration, and infections.
Regular grooming is an essential part of keeping a dog healthy and happy. The elderly pup, was then moved to the RSPCA Wirral and Chester branch in Wallasey. He’s currently staying with centre manager Kay Hawthorn.
“A sweet and gentle dog has emerged who’s been given a new lease on life,” says Katy. “He’s enjoying running around again.”
He agreed to foster the Old Age Puppy until he finds his perfect retirement home. She’s been amazed at Larry’s physical and emotional transformation. He’s a completely different dog from the scared and lonely pooch rescuers found on the streets.
