Every day, hundreds of dogs are abandoned by their owners in the most brutal way. Animals are always completely exposed to dangerous roads and are at risk of being hit by a car, bumped, or even killed.
Sadly, this is what happened to a small dog found under a couple’s car in Virginia Beach on a chilly morning. Brittany Sallinger, a volunteer with animal rescue organization Fur Ever Home Rescue, suddenly woke her boyfriend, who took her outside their home, to see what was underneath her car.
The woman was even more surprised when she saw a pit bull freezing to death next to her rear tire and immediately tried to lure it out of hiding.
“After a bit of patience and giving her some sweets, they were able to get her out of there. She was completely worn out and dirty. Kelly Martin, president of Fur Ever Home Rescue, said.
In addition to her dire condition, the dog was left with a yellow plastic bag tied around her neck. According to Sallinger, that was the bag they used when shopping at the supermarket, indicating that someone had tied her and then escaped.
“She was wrapped in a large yellow bag and it looked like she was tied up in it with her head sticking out. The couple had to remove the bag from her,” Martin said.
To get rid of all the dirt on his skin, the couple had to bathe the dog six times and then contact Martin to take her to the bunker. The woman was amazed at the dog’s small size and decided to name it Itty Bitty Pittie. After a health check with the veterinarian, it was discovered that the pup was only 4 months old, underweight and infected with worms. Thankfully, he had no major health complications. Besides Itty did not want to eat, she had no intention of coming into contact with humans.
“At first I was very shy. I thought someone had hurt her a lot, but as a week passed we started to discover her true personality and she gradually realized that people could give her food. and other good stuff,” Martin explained.
“Canines forgive. They have the most amazing personalities and recover much faster than other breeds. I’m so glad his life is going to be so much better,” Martin said.
When the dog is fully recovered, he will be adopted and will eventually be part of the home that cares for and protects it forever, as it has always deserved. It is another proof that dogs have the greatest of hearts and that in many cases we do not deserve their unconditional love. They are vulnerable and sensitive creatures, they trust us blindly, we should us not let them down.
