A 14 years old dog, wandered into a fire department station near Bolivia, Chile. With his sweet face and loving personality, it didn’t take long for the stray to win over the firefighters.
Luckily they decided to adopt him as their mascot. He watched the station while the other guys were out on calls. Dog kept a smile on everyone’s faces when things got tough.
The dog wasn’t just a pet; he was a part of the team. He participated in official ceremonies and travelled with the firefighters on community outreach programmes. In addition, visited local schools and hospitals.
But sadly, this hardworking dog has put in his last shift. He passed away a few years ago following a short illness. The crew announced the sad news on the station’s page.
“Due to his delicate health, our faithful four-legged firefighter has left this land. Thanks for your service. You were one of us and as loved as any other firefighter in our company,” wrote Captain Jorge Tapia.
The entire station and local community members ,came together to give this special dog a memorable send-off fit for a hero.
Dozens of firefighters stood in a guard of honour as pallbearers carried an urn holding the dog’s ashes through the station.
“This amazing animal came to us over a decade ago as a puppy,” said Captain Jorge Tapia. “He left us a true hero.”
In an extraordinary move, the departed dog was awarded an ‘Honorary Firefighter’ title. It’s one of the highest distinctions a firefighter can earn.
