A cat on the verge of losing her sight clung to her senses and maternal instinct to find a home for her children, she wanted them to be happy.

Her name is Clue, a kitten who invaded the home of an elderly couple in Corpus Christi, Texas, for a good cause.

With a curious strategy, this blind cat managed to change the life of her offspring and give them a new home.

The cat had three kittens in her care whom she sought to protect.

Last month, Coastal Bend Cat Rescue (CBCR) volunteers received a call from a young man trying to report a feline family in very bad shape.

As he related, the boy had reportedly gone to visit his elderly parents when he noticed a cat intruding in the back of the residence.

When he went to investigate, the young man noticed that the furry cat was not alone: the little animal had taken up residence with her offspring and neither looked in the best condition.

Some welts had formed in the cat’s eyes.

The young man thought the kitty was blind and he wasn’t entirely wrong, but he believed there was still something to be done for her and her little ones.

“She contacted our rescue for help. At the time, the cat was thought to have severe eye infections that sealed her eyes closed,” said Mary Huckabee, CBCR officer.

When they were able to locate a temporary home for the family, rescuers went after the cat and her kitten. That’s when they realized the big picture: the cat had an infection and so did her babies, but not exactly an eye infection.

The little ones showed signs of an upper respiratory tract infection (URI) and were malnourished.

As soon as they were given some food, they devoured it, as did the cat.

After a check-up, the specialists determined that the kitten not only had an eye infection, but no tissue.

This cat survived and raised her children, even though she was completely blind.

The helpless animal used her intuition to take refuge in the home of the elders, and it was certainly the best thing she could have done.

Once they got the picture, the rescuers could only admire this cat whose blindness did not prevent her from being a mother.

“Our veterinarian believes she has congenital microphthalmia, she was born with very small or absent eyes.

She will need enucleation to prevent recurrent infections.

Being blind doesn’t bother her at all. Mom Clue was very protective of her babies,” Mary shared.

With proper care, the offspring began to gain weight and became very active kittens. In fact, the mother now has a hard time keeping up with them.

“Occasionally she is surprised when a baby meows from a place she wasn’t expecting,” said the caregiver.

Three weeks after their rescue, the family is doing very well. Although now the cat has a lot more work to do than before with her adventurous little ones.

The good thing is that Clue is not alone and the temporary home is helping her with the care of her little ones.

The kitties have already been christened and each one proved to have a great personality:

“Candyland is sassy and likes to talk. She is the most adventurous of the kitties. Monopoly is a relaxed girl.

She loves to roll around and have her tummy stroked. Chutes and Ladders was the most standoffish at first, but now she is the first to walk and climb into her foster mom’s lap,” Mary acknowledged.

Mom Clau and her little ones love being a family home, the cat doesn’t want to go back to the streets and so her caregivers are trying to see that she thrives soon and begins to write her story in a forever family.

This cat should never have had to go through so much work but now there are people around her who care about her and are ready to always help her.
