Buddy suffered harrowing injuries to his face and neck at the hands of a cruel individual.
Buddy didn’t have the best start to life. Living on the streets and stealing scraps of food where he could, he must have known things were tough but he had no idea just how tough life could get. He was discovered by appalled rescuers with an extension cord wrapped around his neck and his face set alight.
The pooch suffered extensive burns and rescuers could only deduce that he was set on fire intentionally. Because of the boy’s age, he cannot be tried for this crime so is still walking free. Some passionate dog lovers have raised a petition to get the law changed so minors can be held to account for crimes against animals.
Buddy made a slow and steady recovery. He first had two skin grafts to restore the skin on his face. Now Buddy is almost back to normal. He’s still taking it eay, because his face is very fragile. But he’s been adopted by one of the doctors who worked so hard to help him survive.
It’s been almost 2 weeks since Buddy left the hospital at Mississippi State and went home with Dr. Swanson. She told me he is so happy to be back in the real world. He especially loves spending time exploring in her backyard.
She is going slow with the introductions to her own dogs. Dr. Swanson wants them all to get comfortable in the same space before allowing them to play together. Such a happy ending.
