Surrounded By Feces, Dog Was Waiting For Death While Being Tied To An Aging Trailer

This puppy would not have had a chance to live without the work of those who volunteered to intervene to tell his story today.

Duke is one of those baby mice with a touching and sobering story. There are many people who remember him; It’s been months since he was rescued, and he’s been subjected to horrendous cruelty as he experiences abandonment, hunger, and pain.

Being a ten-month-old puppy, he was left completely alone, abandoned and chained to an old and useless trailer on the outskirts of a town in the city of Bulgaria, under the cruelest quarantine, without food or water. How sad!

He survived and with all his wounds, he was able to give the only thing he had: love.

They called him “the untouchable” because he supposedly had a dangerous disease and no one should get close to him. The truth is that he had been discarded by his owners with the sole intention of ending his life.

The only food he received was some leftovers left by a few passers-by who passed through the place, perhaps not knowing the atrocity that was being committed with this poor innocent being, all he needed was a hero to rescue him. It seemed that he was destined to die.

A woman who lived in the town, saw this little dog and realized the situation he was in and the great suffering he was undergoing, he urgently needed to be taken out of that hell. She stepped in to seek help by calling the Rudozem Street Dog Rescue charity that works with animals in need. She immediately went to investigate Tony Rowles, co-founder of the rescue center.

This little guy could not go anywhere, feces were all around him, there was a strong smell of ammonia, there were a lot of flies, his condition revealed malnutrition, his front legs were bent.

Tony relates that the experience of this encounter with Duke was very overwhelming. Despite being trembling, understandably terrified, he had the strength to respond and thank him by kissing the first hand extended towards him and wagging his tail. He did not know it but from that moment his life would be totally different, freed from the heavy emotional and physical chains.

The center’s shelter was overcrowded, so Tony decided to take Duke home. It was noticeable in his movements a strong fear of people, he tried to stay away, it took him several weeks to feel safe, he made a special bond with Tony’s wife, Diane.

The chain that held him down had damaged his throat causing him to cough sharply. It was shocking and heartbreaking to discover that his legs had been mangled from past abuse.

The vet took x-rays and the results revealed the trauma:

“They were obviously broken, their feet were shattered, their ligaments were destroyed so their bones were just floating on their feet.Unbelievable what this boy has had to endure.”

He was going to get all the help he needed to try to heal his injured legs. He was a brave boy and could not help showing his enthusiasm despite the difficulties. A fighter!

After months of surgeries and leg splints, Duke began to recover, both inside and out, finally able to walk again with his rebuilt legs.

In addition to feeling that he was protected and everything was going to be fine in his life, that cruel past had been left behind they knew that the time had come, he was ready for adoption.

Then something incredible and totally unexpected for everyone happened, someone called to adopt Duke.

Since the rescue group Rudozem Street Dog Rescue began its charitable work eight years ago, more than a thousand dogs have found a home, some have crossed borders and are with their families in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, the United States. Duke would undertake a trip to England with the person who captivated him, Diane Romaine would become his family.

“It was a tearful goodbye,” recalls Tony, and even more tears were shed in England with an emotional greeting of welcome. Duke is with a loving family.”

Three years have passed and many have wanted to know how this dear friend is, Diane kindly sent the images with greetings from Duke.

A blessing and happy ending for the being who was once chained and called the “untouchable”. From the moment of his rescue, the only tie he wore was a human chain of love that has touched the hearts of many.
