In an overcrowded shelter, a poor puppy found herself on the euthanasia list.
When the time came, an unexpected event changed everything. Faced with significant overcrowding, many shelters are forced to make difficult decisions when it comes to euthanasia. This was the case in a Texan shelter.
The staff had put a euthanasia list in place to manage the number of dogs cared for by the facility. On the list was Darla, a particularly stressed and nervous Golden Retriever. When the day came, she was so afraid she couldn’t even walk.
In addition, the staff put her in a wheelbarrow to take the poor pup where she needed to go. Little did Darla know her luck was about to change! As she was being wheeled down the corridor, she was spotted by rescue group Austin Pets Alive!.
Working tirelessly to help the victims of the overpopulation crisis in shelters, the group takes in and rehomes animals in need. Seeing this beautiful girl trembling and terrified, they didn’t hesitate, immediately offering to take her to safety.
Once back at their rescue, Darla was health-checked by their trusted veterinarian. Her rescuers couldn’t believe it when they learnt that Darla was only 8-months-old. She had her whole life ahead of her, and they knew she deserved the brightest of futures.
Having been brought to safety, Darla’s care was then entrusted to the Mile High Lab Rescue in Denver, Colorado. She quickly found a foster family, where she is finally learning what it feels like to be surrounded by love and attention. What a happy ending for sweet Darla.
