Puppy named Millie was rescued on October 2017. Her hair was so long, dirty and matted and had extremely damaged her skin.
The poor thing felt pain. She was suffering, until a worker cut the first bit of her hair;at that moment she licked her hands expressing relief.
Every time she took a step her fragile skin inadvertently warmed up. After taking all the weight off her, which did not allow her to even walk, one of the volunteers of the shelter felt she should take responsibility over her.
She is Patricia Vásquez, board member of Finca Nati Animal Sanctuary. Vásquez keeps rescued animals of all kinds. From small rabbits to chickens, goats, sheep and even ponies.
“She was in a state of extreme pain, but she was very grateful. From the first time I saw her, I noticed that she was a special and loving dog,” said Patricia.
Once Millie underwent treatment, it was clear that she had not eaten in a long time . Additionally, she had open wounds on her front legs, possibly due to knots pulling her fur.
After a few weeks at home with Patricia, Millie was much better. Little by little she gained weight and strength. Soon, she started to adapt very well to the rest of the family.
“She follows me wherever I go,” said Patricia.
Most of the time they are at Finca Nati, where there is a wide range of animals that have welcomed the little pup greatly. 3 years old Millie may be tiny, but that did not stop her from befriending the older residents of the sanctuary.
After so many years trapped in her own fur, Ella Millie is free and can go for a walk whenever she wants. Even though the sanctuary is in the Bahamas, Millie does not like spending time on the beach that much.
“The golf cart is one of her favorite things. She really enjoys taking slow rides with it,” Vàsquez said.
Puppies who have suffered deserve a second chance in this world! We invite you to share Millie’s story with all your friends abd family.
