Not everyone is aware of the love and care of old puppies. Fortunately, there are organizations like Project Mr. Mo is responsible for rescuing and giving those puppies a second chance.

Chris and Mariesa Hughes are the founders of this very special place. For them, there is no greater source of inspiration than their dog, an elderly Chihuahua named Mabel.

Mabel is not less than sixteen years old. She is still very loving and special. Unfortunately, she is getting weaker and requires all the support she can get.

A couple of years ago veterinarians at Cornell University Veterinary Hospital helped her with a very delicate operation. Mabel was having serious trouble breathing so they cut a small hole in her throat.

Against all odds, the brave Chihuahua managed to survive. However, recently the owners came to think that they would lose him. His health began to fail and he had increasing difficulty breathing as the hole in his trachea completely collapsed.

“Many ask us why we don’t give up if she is so old and with so many medical problems.”

She needed immediate help from a vet, but the one who had always treated her was several hours away. They called him for help and he told them it was best to get her to the office as quickly as possible. Chris and Mariesa dropped everything to drive the long haul.

Minute by minute, poor Mabel was getting worse. Halfway through her tongue started to turn a strange color so she stopped to ask another vet for help. Unfortunately, this doctor did not have the necessary equipment and did not know how to help the poor Chihuahua. They called Dr. Baum once more and he gave them wonderful news.

The dedicated doctor was very concerned about poor Mabel so he and another doctor decided to drive to her. It was still about two hours to walk to Mabel’s vet.

After an hour and a half everyone managed to meet halfway. There he helped the dog with an oxygen tank and took her back to the comfort of her home. She had taken the time to drive an enormous distance to save her, now that is a superhero.

Now, Mabel is resting with her devoted parents. Many say that the dog is already too old but they are not willing to give up who she is a member of the family. The sweet chihuahua dedicated her best years to them so they will always support her.

“It is clear that she still has a lot of love to give us. She wants to continue with us for a while longer.”
