Last month a heavily pregnant cat was plucked from the streets. Was brought to Indianapolis Animal Care Services for immediate care.
It was shortly after her arrival that she went into labor and gave birth to a litter of four extremely cute kittens. This was when IndyHumane stepped up to the plate to help.
“She and the kittens came into foster care with me when they were two days old,” Jeniffer , a volunteer of IndyHumane said.
Bunny, the new mom, proved to be a loving mom right from the get-go. However, things took a turn for the worst when she came down with a severe upper respiratory infection. That being the case she soon lost her appetite and couldn’t produce enough milk to satisfy hungry mouths.
Along with her remaining kitten, Bunny made a full recovery, going right back to being a great mom. Supplying Dash with all his needs, including enough to eat.
“Bunny is very attentive, so with just Dash left, she literally showers him with a lot of attention,” Jennifer shared.
“If I’m paying too much attention to Dash, she will push her way in between us. She is taking very good care of him and always has a watchful eye on him now that he’s out and about exploring the foster room and playing.”
Being such a young mom, Bunny is clearly still a kitten at heart. Doing zoomies in the middle of the night and crying for attention when she’s lonely.
The plus side of being a young mom is that Bunny has more than enough energy to match baby Dash! Being almost as playful Dash means that Bunny is tolerant of almost everything he does.
“In my experience with fostering, most mama cats naturally start to separate themselves from their kittens as they wean,” Jennifer shared.
