Casper, a 10-week-old dog, was in dire straits in a “backwater of Kentucky” when PetPromise Inc. agreed to take it.

Lifeguards were contacted to take care of this Great Pyrenees puppy and were told there was something wrong with its paws – it was apparently missing some toes.

They arrange a transfer and foster group and soon Casper (and his sister Rowan) are on their way to a new life, but first they must be taken to the vet.

One of the volunteers drove to Cincinnati to meet with shelter transportation and pick up Casper and his sister Rowan. Arriving home, he realized that they were completely infested with ticks.

Casper and his sister were immediately transported to be rescued from that life of hell.

We are talking about hundreds of insects from head to toe! In the ears, embedded under the skin, between the toes, everywhere.

Volunteers took them both directly to Rascal Animal Hospital, where veterinarians immediately came to work with them.

They were treated for ticks, vaccinated, and had a physical exam . Poor Rowan was so infected that they had to shave her off!

While there, the volunteers asked veterinarians to take an X-ray of Casper’s feet to see if anything was unusual.

What they found was quite shocking . He was born with a deformed leg, his fingers are completely amorphous and he has broken several bones in his leg due to stress from being unable to balance properly.

Casper’s options are amputation (not ideal for a dog weighing about 130 pounds) or leg surgery to remove the toes and fit him with a prosthetic leg .

Casper urgently needs a prosthetic

Although the prosthesis is the most expensive option and requires a long process , it gives him the best chance of a long and happy life, so that option was chosen. choose.

Rowan was adopted by one of the staff at Rascal Animal Hospital. As for Casper? Casper is free and enjoying his foster home time.

The puppy loves other dogs, his kitten siblings and everyone he meets. Since he and his sister were born and raised in the open air where they lived , they initially behaved like very shy dogs .

During Casper’s first month in his foster home, he was in full bloom and completely out of his shell! He’s loving, sweet and a great, huge, happy boy! Additionally, during his foster home stay, Rascal Charity provided Casper with a prosthetic leg.

Today, Casper is the face of the Rascal Charity and as you can see, the prosthetic has changed his entire life.
